Eugene is an assistant you use entirely by text message. That is a deliberate design choice, and it is why many people with disabilities find it easier than apps: there is nothing to install, no menus to navigate, no small buttons, and nothing that times out. If you can send a text — with your voice, a switch, a screen reader, one hand, or slowly — you can use all of Eugene.
What works today
- Everything over SMS or Telegram. Reminders, recurring routines, research, notes and documents, calendar — all of it works through plain text messages. There is no feature that requires the website.
- Compatible with your setup. Because Eugene lives in your existing messaging app, it works with screen readers, voice input, switch access, and any assistive technology that can send a text.
- Short, imperfect messages are fine. Typos and fragments are understood. Eugene asks at most one question at a time, and if you tell it typing is costly for you, it remembers and keeps its replies short from then on.
- No time pressure. Nothing expires mid-conversation. Reply in ten seconds or ten hours.
- One text, many steps. A single message can set several reminders, run research, or produce a document — useful when every tap or keystroke has a physical cost.
What doesn't work yet
- No phone-call or native voice interface yet. On Telegram, voice notes work; on SMS they don't.
- Photos aren't supported on every channel (they work on SMS/MMS and Telegram, within limits).
- The optional web dashboard is standard, simple HTML and works with screen readers, but our formal WCAG audit is still in progress. The dashboard is never required — everything it shows can be asked for by text.
If cost is a barrier
Eugene is free to start, and the paid plan is $9.99/month. If Eugene works for you as assistive technology and the cost is a barrier, email contact@meeteugene.com and tell us — we will work something out. That is a standing promise, not a campaign.
Feedback goes to a person
If something about Eugene is harder than it should be with your setup, tell us: contact@meeteugene.com. Accessibility feedback is read by the founder and has changed the product before — the behavior where Eugene adapts to users who type at physical cost exists because a user taught us it should.
